Gerrit KAMPHORST, landbouwknecht (1813), milicien (1814), boerenknecht (1818), kleermaker (1819, 1832), winkelier (1840, 1874), born on 19‑05‑1793 in Putten, christened (NDG) on 26‑05‑1793 in Putten, died on 07‑01‑1874 in Nijkerk at the age of 80. Bregje Melissen-Kamphorst, een achter-achter-kleinkind van Gerrit senior, schreef ons vanuit Canada dat de familie Kamphorst volgens de overlevering dichtbij Nijkerk aanvankelijk een stoeterij bezeten zou hebben. Deze stoeterij, waar paarden verwisseld konden worden en reizigers konden overnachten, zou in haar herinnering "Spocht Oeren" of "Spocht Hoorn" geheten hebben. Op de Topografische en Militaire Kaart van Nederland van 1860 (Nk.1) en de Historische Atlas van Gelderland staat wel een veldnaam Spogh bij de buurtschap Diermen (Nk.1). Aangezien Gerrit in 1818 boerenknecht was te Diermen, is het mogelijk dat hij daar in een stoeterij met de naam Spogh gewerkt heeft. Spogh lag dicht bij de postroute van Amersfoort naar Zwolle en kan dus heel goed gefungeerd hebben als pleisterplaats voor de postkoetsen, die deze afstand in ongeveer 6 uur konden afleggen. In 1838 kocht Gerrit senior, die toen al winkelier was, 3 huizen onder 1 dak met een erf en een bleekveldje. De huizen stonden op de hoek van Het Verlaat en Het Plein en grensden "westwaarts aan de beek en noordwaarts aan het Plein" (Nk.5). Inbegrepen in de koop was "de mede-eigendom voor de geregte helft" van de pomp op het terrein van een buurman. De koopprijs was fl. 1300,-- waarvan fl. 300,-- contant werd betaald en fl. 1000,-- werd geleend tegen een rente van 4%.
 
Bij zijn inschrijving als milicien werd het volgende signalement van Gerrit senior opgemaakt : lengte 5 voet 7 duim 2 streek, aangezichtg dik, voorhoofd hoog, ogen blauw, neus plat, mond ordinair (d.w.z. gewoon), kin rond, haar en wenkbrauwen blond. Hij vervulde zijn militaire dienstplicht eerst bij het 5e bataillon van de 7e afdeling infanterie. Op 4 maart 1814 werd hij daar bevorderd tot fusilier en op 1 augustus 1814 tot korporaal. Op 31 december 1814 ging hij over naar de marine.
 
In 1840 verkocht Gerrit senior één van zijn 3 huizen, nl. "het huis op de hoek van 't Plein het het Verlaat aan de beek". Er werd daarbij afgesproken dat er een schutting zou komen tussen het erf van Gerrit en dat van de koper. De verkoopprijs was fl. 500,--. Gerrit senior was in 1846 lid van het College van Diakenen van de Hervormde Gemeente te Nijkerk. In die functie was hij o.m. betrokken bij het verpachten en bij de koop en verkoop van onroerende goederen van de kerk. Na het overlijden van Gerrit senior's vrouw Jannetje van Norden, met wie hij zonder huwelijkse voorwaarden getrouwd was, werd een beschrijving van de gemeenschappelijke boedel opgemaakt. Hierop stonden de handtekeningen van Gerrit en zijn kinderen. Interessant in de boedelbeschrijving is vooral de inventaris van de kleermakerswinkel, die voor meer dan fl. 10.000,-- aan stoffen omvatte. Hieronder waren o.m. 2443 ellen linnen, 3989 ellen katoen en 2650 ellen modestof. Andere stoffen in de winkel waren molton, boezeroenstof, chelas, loostijk, diement, neteldoek, duffel, bevertijn, macnhester, pilow, baai, biver, buckskin, parmatta, orleans, merconos, flanel, laken, kant en broekstof. Er waren ook veel "gemaakte stoffen", waaronder 20 boezeroenen, 295 cornetten, bodemmutsen en andere mutsen, molton dekens, corsetten, paardedekken, kousen, moffen, bonfantes, borstrokken en wanten.
Uit de boedelbeschrijving blijkt verder dat het huis bestond uit een winkel twee voorkamers, een keuken, een kelder met daarboven een "kelderkamertje", een achterkamertje, een zolder en een achterhuis. Het huis was sober ingericht met de meest noodzakelijke huishoudelijke artikelen. De waarde van de winkelinventaris werd geschat op fl. 10.909,-- en van andere roerende zaken op fl. 470,--. Daarnaast waren er fl. 3.649,-- aan tegoeden en fl. 4.489,-- aan schulden, zodat de totale waarde van de inventaris werd geschat op fl. 10.539,--.
 
In 1869 verkocht Gerrit senior aan zijn zoon Gerrit en zijn dochter Cornelia "het vroeger in 2 woningen verdeelde huis met erf en bleekveldje aan het marktplein, met de helft van een pomp op het erf van buurman Cornelis Prins". De verkoopprijs was fl. 1800,-- waarvan een gedeelte verrekend werd met vorderingen wegens achterstallig loon van de kopers. Gerrit senior mocht in de helft van het huis blijven wonen tegen een huur van fl. 110,-- per jaar.
 
In 1870 maakten Gerrit junior en zijn zuster Cornelia gelijkluidende testamenten waarin zij elkaar tot erfgenamen van hun gehele nalatenschap benoemden. Hieraan werd de verplichting verbonden om aan hun vader, in plaats van diens wettelijk erfdeel, een achtste van het zuiver saldo van de nalatenschap uit te keren.
In 1884 legden Gerrit junior en Cornelia notarieel vast dat zij tezamen een winkelbedrijf uitoefenden aan het marktplein. Zij verklaarden dat zij in dit bedrijf een huishouding voor gemeenschappelijke rekening hadden gevoerd. De gemeenschappelijke boedel omvatte de inboedel, de winkelgoederen, de winkelopstand, de schuldvorderingen van het bedrijf en het huis met erf en het bleekveldje. De totale waarde hiervan werd geschat op fl. 2800,--. Daarnaast was er "een som in contanten, uit winsten van het bedrijf voortspruitende, van meer dan fl. 2800,--". De boedel werd verdeeld, waarbij Gerrit de goederen en schuldvorderingen behield en Cornelia fl. 2800,-- in contanten kreeg. Eveneens in 1884 werden huwelijkse voorwaarden overeengekomen tussen Cornelia Kamphorst, winkelierster en bruid, en Wouteris van Dijkhuizen, timmerman en bruidegom. Hierin werd vastgelegd dat in de gemeenschap van goederen "de man gerechtigd is voor een vierde en de vrouw voor drie vierde". Mocht Cornelia eerts overlijden, dan zou Wouterus het vruchtgebruik krijgen van een derde van haar nalatenschap.
 
In 1890 bepaalde Gerrit junior in een testament dat de erfenis, die zijn zuster Cornelia van hem zou krijgen, niet mocht vallen in de gemeenschap van goederen van haar en haar echtgenoot Wouterus van Dijkhuizen. Hij benoemde zijn broer Evert en de winkelier Lubbert Klarenbeek tot beheerders van deze erfenis. Eveneens in 1890 benoemde Cornelia Kamphorst haar echtgenoot Wouterus van Dijkhuizen tot enige erfgenaam. Zij legateerde echter aan haar wettige erfgenamen tezamen een bedrag van fl. 4.000,-- dat door Wouterus aan hen zou worden uitbetaald. In 1901 en 1905 legde Gerrit junior in 2 opeenvolgende wilsbeschikkingen vast hoe zijn nalatenschap verdeeld zou moeten worden onder zijn erfgenamen. Zijn broer Evert en diens zoon Gerrit zouden elk de helft erven. Hierbij werden echter legaten vastgelegd voor al zijn neejes en nichtjes en voor de diaconie van de Nederlands Hervormde Gemeente, alsmede het vruchtgebruik van fl. 4.000,-- voor zijn zuster Cornelia.
